The beginning of 2023 brought pleasant news for investors and followers of Alexey Klokov’s talent. His painting “Walking on Water” (Suggestive Abstract series — canvas, enamel, gold leaf) was sold to a private collector for $170,000, setting a record-breaking amount for the artist’s multicolored enamels in North America. The painting embodies a biblical theme, a favorite subject in Alexey’s art, who has devoted several years to icon painting.
This news is remarkable for another reason. On the one hand, amidst the turbulence of global markets and a downward trend, art does not seem to be a “parachute” for investors. However, surprisingly, the artist’s recent sale aligns with the global art market trend, which is defying all predictions and growing. For example, in 2022, the sales in the “expensive art” segment increased by 3% compared to the previous year.
Does it look like a miracle? Not at all, given that the expensive art is actually the best way to preserve wealth during an “economic storm” and unpredictability when even keeping funds in banks can have negative consequences…
